The idea behind Holon Theory took root when Lori was a student at Bowling Green State University, where a Latin root word from class—holos, meaning “whole”—intersected with a logic lesson about things being both parts and wholes at once. This single insight sparked a lifelong fascination with systems. From that moment, she began seeing everything—workflows, teams, even small towns—as living ecosystems of interdependent parts. Over the years, Lori applied this thinking to business process design, postal technology, and community building—including founding the Atwood Lake Community Development Corporation.
